Recharging of battery during
exploitation is carried out if a capacity drop (discharge) occurred
due to malfunction in vehicle or idleness of battery (longer than 90
days). In case of discharge, the battery shall be recharged within 48
hours. If this time is exceeded sulphation of the plates will occur,
substantially reduces battery capacity and lifetime.
Recharging shall be carried out in the
following order, conformity with the manufacturer's instructions:
- When being recharged it is essential to
remove the battery.
- Demounting of battery shall be
carried out as per instructions.
- Unscrew vent plugs before recharging.
- Check the level of electrolyte. If
necessary, fill it up with distilled water only.
- Clean and degrease
the terminal posts.
- Connect the battery to a DC source
(prior to turning on the source).
- Connect + cable to + terminal post and
- cable to - terminal post.
- Charge with current 1=0.1 Cn, for 55Ah
battery I=5A.
- Duration of charging is 14-18h or to
reach a density of electrolyte of 1.275+/-0.01 gr/cm3 (to 'boiling'
point).
- Charging temperature shall not exceed
55°C (in such case, reduce the current by 1/z).
- When charged with constant voltage,
source shall not exceed 15.8V.
Upon recharging, check electrolyte
level, wipe the battery clean, degrease the terminal posts and
install the battery, as per instruction.
